We want you to bring your cars out and race!

We want to ensure that historic racing remains true to its origins while balancing performance, reliability, and cost control. We believe it is in our common interest for the future of everyone in historic motor racing to safeguard the history and value of our beautiful machines. Our driving force is to help reduce the cost and create an economically sustainable and fair competition environment.

Our plan

Motor Racing Legends works in collaboration with fellow historic racing organisers Goodwood and Masters Historic Racing, along with the full support of Roger Wills, who represents the FIA’s and Motorsport UK’s Historic initiatives.

Historic racing should be a fair. If we find a competitor or a preparer commits a serious and deliberate breach of the regulations, they will be excluded. They need to provide evidence that irregularities have been rectified before they will be able to race again.

Our commitment remains firm that we want to work towards every car complying with their period specifications, homologation forms, and historic technical passports. Ideally, we encourage all competitors who own cars eligible for an FIA Historic Technical Passport to initiate the application process, ensuring long-term eligibility for events worldwide.

We must also find the best solutions for managing car performance. Should we implement rev limiters? Introduce intake restrictors? Regulate brake materials? These are critical questions, and we must answer them together. Our aim is to collaborate with you in shaping the future of historic racing in a way that protects the authenticity of car behaviour and ensures mechanical longevity.

Action!

To support this mission, we are strengthening our technical team with the imminent arrival of a dedicated technical regulations manager. This individual will collaborate with our dedicated working groups of organisers, preparers and competitors, issue specific technical bulletins, and maintain a close and ongoing relationship with teams to provide guidance and clarity. We know we can’t put the genie back in the bottle, but together we can go a long way to taking our passion back to being fun instead of finger pointing.

To support this mission, we have strengthened our technical team. We collaborate with dedicated working groups of organisers, preparers and competitors, issue specific technical bulletins, and maintain a close and ongoing relationship with teams to provide guidance and clarity. We know that it will be difficult to go back to how things were before, but together we can return to a healthy environment, far from the sometimes suspicious climate.

In addition, we have strengthened our scrutineering team by bringing in European specialists to work alongside a group of UK technical scrutineers, ensuring consistent and fair application of regulations across all Motor Racing Legends series.

We have introduced various sets of tools to aid scrutineers in verifying dimensional or performance parameters, through the use of a rolling road dyno, engine capacity checking (along with the existing methods such as weight scales).

Further technical working groups are organised for each series. Composed of competitors, preparers, and the Motor Racing Legends scrutineers and organisation. These groups provide an open forum to shape regulations. Our goal is to work closely with you to inspect cars, validate compliance, and discuss any potential non-conformities, but always with a constructive and open dialogue. Our approach is not one of restriction, but of collaboration.

We can build a stronger future for historic racing.
